The proponent was granted a mining licence (ML 223) and intends to set up a mining operation in an area consisting of mineralized pegmatites with viable concentrations of tantalite. The proposed area is located within the boundaries of Mining Licence 223. In support of the mining activities, the proponent intends to set up and improve gravel roads leading to the mine, construct a waterline to the mine and set up a powerline from Warmbad to the mine. The Environmental Regulations procedure (GN 30 of 2012) stipulates that no energy generation, transmission and storage activities may be undertaken without an environmental clearance certificate. In addition, no infrastructure development may take place without an environmental clearance certificate. As such, an environmental clearance certificate must be applied for in accordance with regulation 6 of the 2012 environmental regulations.
