230728001799 - PROPOSED BUSH THINNING ACTIVITIES AND BIOCHAR PRODUCTION ON FARM IRIS 145 IN KUNENE REGION

The proposed generic environmental management plan (GEMP) for the bush thinning activities and biochar production on farm Iris 145. The proposed bush control activities will involve the use of manual harvesting techniques in an area of 5000 ha. The impact of bush control measures is expected to be of low intensity. The farm will therefore be classified as a medium-sized bush harvesting operation (150 – 5000 hectares) and require a GEMP. Listed activities triggered by the project include: LISTED ACTIVITY EIA SCREENING FINDING FORESTRY ACTIVITIES (4) The clearance of forest areas, deforestation, aforestation, timber harvesting or any other related activity that requires authorisation in terms of the Forest Act, 2001 (Act No. 12 of 2001) or any other law. - Cutting (harvesting) of encroacher tree species. Bush control activities will stay within an area of 5000 ha within the boundaries of the farm.
