230519001497 - THE APPLICATION FOR THE RENEWAL OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE FOR THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF AN EXISTING 66KV RUNDU – MPASI TRANSMISSION LINE INCLUDING BUNYA AND KAPAKO SUBSTATIONS.

The ECC is for the application for the renewal of the environmental clearance certificate for the operation and maintenance of an existing 66kV Rundu – Mpasi Transmission Line including Bunya and Kapako Substations. In 2015, NamPower obtained an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the Vegetation Management, Rundu to Mpasi along the 66 kV Transmission line. However, Bunya and Kapako substations and the other operational and maintenance activities were not included in the previous ECC. Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (2012), the activity described as “The construction of facilities for the transmission, generation and distribution of electricity…” requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to renew and apply for the ECC for the operation and maintenance of an existing 66 kV Rundu to Mpasi transmission line , Bunya and Kapako substations in order to comply with the Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
