230512001472 - THE APPLICATION FOR THE RENEWAL OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE FOR THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF AN EXISTING 66KV OKATOPE – OKONGO TRANSMISSION LINE INCLUDING OKONGO SUBSTATION.

The ECC is for the operation and maintenance of an existing 66kV Okatope – Okongo transmission line including Okongo substation. In 2019, NamPower obtained an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the Vegetation Management on the 66 kV Okatope – Okongo Transmission line servitudes in Okatope and Kavango East Regions. However, Okongo substation and the other operational and maintenance activities were not included in the previous ECC which was issued. Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (2012), the activity described as “The construction of facilities for the transmission, generation and distribution of electricity…” requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to renew and apply for the ECC for the operation and maintenance of an existing 66 kV Okatope – Okongo transmission line including Okongo Substation in Oshikoto and Ohangwena Regions in order to comply with the Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
