The Keetmanshoop Municipality is applying for the renewal of the Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the proposed establishment of new waste disposal site in Keetmanshoop. Keetmanshoop is the regional Capital for the //Karas Region thus, it plays an important part in administrative, residential, industrial and commercial role. The influx of the people into the town leads to urban growth. This growth requires an increased need for sustainable solid waste management, thus the municipality intends to decommission the existing solid waste dumpsite and develop a new solid waste disposal site within the town boundaries.
