230609001554 - ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR THE OPERATION OF THE EXISTING 132kV TRANSMISSION LINE FROM OTJIKOTO SUBSTATION TO RUNDU SUBSTATION AND CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF THE PROPOSED 220kV TRANSMISSION LINE FROM OTJIKOTO SUBST

In 2019, NamPower obtained an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the Vegetation Management for the 132 kV Otjikoto - Rundu Transmission line servitudes in Otjikoto and Kavango East Regions. However, the other operational and maintenance activities and the proposed 220kV transmission line were not included in the previous ECC which was issued. Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (2012), the activity described as “The construction of facilities for the transmission, generation and distribution of electricity…” requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to renew the ECC and amend it to include the operation and maintenance of the 132kV Otjikoto - Rundu transmission lines in Oshikoto and Kavango East Regions and proposed 220kV transmission line from Otjikoto substation near Tsumeb to Masivi Substation near Rundu to comply with the Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations. It is important to state that the proposed 220kV Otjikoto Substation -Masivi Substation powerline will run mostly alongside the existing 132kV line from Otjikoto substation to Rundu Substatio. Masivi substation is located 10km before Rundu.
