230519001498 - THE APPLICATION FOR THE RENEWAL OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE FOR THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF AN EXISTING 132KV OTJIKOTO – OHORONGO TRANSMISSION LINE INCLUDING OHORONGO SUBSTATION

The ECC is for the operation and maintenance of an existing 132kV Otjikoto – Ohorongo Transmission line including Ohorongo substation. In 2015, NamPower obtained an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the Vegetation Management, Otjikoto to Ohorongo along the 132 kV Transmission line. However, Ohorongo substation and the other operational and maintenance activities were not included in the previous ECC. Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (2012), the activity described as “The construction of facilities for the transmission, generation and distribution of electricity…” requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to renew and apply for the ECC for the operation and maintenance of an existing 132 kV Otjikoto to Ohorongo transmission line including Ohorongo substation in order to comply with the Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations
