230512001470 - THE APPLICATION FOR THE RENEWAL OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE FOR THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF AN EXISTING 132KV HIPPO – OMATANDO TRANSMISSION LINE AND HIPPO SUBSTATION

The ECC is for the renewal for the operation and maintenance of the 132kV Hippo - Omatando transmission line and Hippo Substation. In 2019, NamPower obtained an Environmental Clearance Certificate (ECC) for the Vegetation Management, Ruacana – Omatando along the 132 kV Transmission line. However, Hippo substation and the other operational and maintenance activities were not included in the previous ECC. Furthermore, the name of the line also changed from Ruacana – Omatando to Hippo – Omatando. Under the Environmental Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and the Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (2012), the activity described as “The construction of facilities for the transmission, generation and distribution of electricity…” requires an Environmental Clearance Certificate. It is therefore against this background that NamPower intends to renew and apply for the ECC for the operation and maintenance of an existing 132 kV Hippo – Omatando transmission line including Hippo Substation in order to comply with the Management Act (Act 7 of 2007) and its regulations.
