230223001036 - Renewal of an Environmental Clearance Certificate for a Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant System for the Okalongo Settlement, Omusati Region

Oxidation ponds, also called lagoons or stabilization ponds, are large, shallow ponds designed to treat wastewater through the interaction of sunlight, bacteria, and algae. Algae grow using energy from the sun and carbon dioxide and inorganic compounds released by bacteria in water. The Environmental Regulations procedure (GN 30 of 2012) stipulates that no construction of facilities for waste sites, treatment of waste and disposal of waste activities may be undertaken without an environmental clearance certificate. The proponent intends to renew the current certificate.
